I’ve seen in my Facebook news feed a video of this
cute-looking anime character and I got intrigued by the latter part of the
video wherein the character went to rent a karaoke room and then began singing
death metal! I went ‘Oh my gosh, she is badass!’ It’s unexpectedly great to see
a cute character sing death metal which is not that much being shown by adults
to minor audience. I was hyped to see the anime for myself.
I
finished the whole season for 2 days as each episode just run for 15+ minutes.
If I were to do a marathon on it for a day, I could without depriving myself sleep.
It was a fun watch and I laughed and smiled through the whole thing because:
1) The characters all look so cute! I was surprised that it was made by Sanrio.
Thinking about it, an aggressive red panda will now be an ongoing character
alongside the likes of Hello Kitty, Gudetama, and others. I don’t mean that in
a bad way because Sanrio do need a slight change of personality in their
characters HAHAHAHAHA; and,
2) The struggles of Retsuko resemble a lot of what the
people in the work force are experiencing. I read a lot of people in Japan
dying from burnout and of course a part of anyone’s work is the stress caused
by all sorts of factors inside the company adding on top of personal stressors
with everyday life outside work. Women are expected to act meek and mild
despite being piled by all the work, it is really emotionally and physically
tiring to keep it all in and not letting other people know that you feel that
way. Retsuko would go to the restroom or other isolated rooms to sing death metal
and let it all out for a few moments before counting back to ten and be a
normal employee. It mirrors the everyday life of female workers and that is
what I like about this anime is that it is not just a funny and cute show, but
it also shows the struggles that we face every day. She even shows fantasies of
getting married and being a housewife just to not work anymore! To be honest, I
would have loved to see more scenes of Retsuko and Haida after the last scene
because I ship them! The time Retsuko spent with Resasuke was a waste of time,
I was rooting for Haida ever since! HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Anyway, you can learn
a lot from this adorable red panda – that death metal is not just noise and it
helps relieve stress and of course, to balance out your work and your life out
of work! It is worth the watch and I hope that there will be a Season 2!
